Pensioner Is Killed By Cigarette Blaze, UK

A pensioner from Stockwell, London, has died in a blaze thought to have been started by a cigarette. Firefighters from Brixton and Clapham who went into the burning flat to tackle the flames discovered the pensioner’s body. Paramedics declared the man dead at the scene and police have not officially confirmed his identity. Using a large population survey in India, a new study from Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) researchers has found an association between domestic violence and adult smoking. The study appears in the December 11, 2007 issue of the journal Tobacco Control.Smoking and chewing tobacco contribute to some 800,000 deaths in India every year.
